Smith is an English singer-songwriter who is well-known for hits including “Stay With Me,” “Dancing with a Stranger,” and “Unholy.”
They have received several honors throughout their career, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and five Grammy Awards.
Smith, who uses the pronouns they/them and identifies as non-binary, has faced criticism in the past several years due to a variety of factors, including their “satanic” stage act and their daring Brit Awards attire.
However, supporters are now standing up for them after a derogatory video surfaced on X, the former Twitter.
A person in a Ninja Turtle costume tries a stage dive in a widely shared video, but no one catches them.
The video was posted online by numerous social media trolls, who simultaneously body-shamed and identified the individual as Smith.
“Sam Smith doing a stage dive at his Seattle show” was the title of one of the clips.
A viewer of one of these films said, “Wait what!? That was Sam Smith!?”
“Please tell me this isn’t actually Sam Smith,” someone else said.
“It’s really Sam Smith?” inquired another person.
Rushing to the comments section, many of Smith’s followers made it clear that Smith wasn’t the guy in the widely shared video.
A watcher remarked, “That’s not Sam Smith.”
“Despite various accounts spreading false information, Sam Smith DID not stage dive at any concert,” confirmed a second.
“The obsession right-wingers have with Sam Smith has combined with their affinity for fake news and false information,” weighed in another. “This is so CLEARLY not Sam, they have truly never fact-checked a day in their life.”
“You’re not even capable of fact-checking a simple thing such as this, it’s not Sam Smith,” commented a fourth commenter.
The video appears to be of a man attending a Vanilla Ice concert, as reported by AP News. There is also footage of the American rapper performing his song “Ninja Rap” live.
When the news source contacted Lisa DiAngelo, Smith’s spokesperson, she confirmed that the vocalist of “Latch” was not shown in the video.
Although the identity of the costumed person is still unknown and it’s unclear what happened to him following the stage dive, several people have left kind remarks for him, with one person saying, “I really hope he’s okay.”
