Users of X, formerly known as Twitter, are criticizing Sheeran for the widely shared image. One person wrote, “Nooo, we lost one today kids. Ed, how could you do this?”
A second remarks: “Disappointing. I officially dislike Ed Sheeran,” writes somebody else.
A fourth person says: “I guess call me an Ed Sheeran hater because wtf is this.”
“Oh, Ed Sheeran,” pens another X user, alongside a GIF of Tyra Banks shouting: “I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! How dare you!”
Others are using the opportunity to support Sheeran and argue that cancel culture is becoming too extreme.
“I try to stay above the nonsense most of the time but… Good luck trying to cancel Ed Sheeran kids!” pens one fan.
Another fumes: “Cancel, cancel, cancel. I’m so sick of cancel culture.”
While a third X user enthuses: “Oh my goodness! So much love, so many legends, so much awesomeness in this epic picture!”
At Andrea Bocelli’s concert series, the now-viral picture including Sheeran, Depp, and Crowe was taken.
The three attended the well-known Italian tenor’s three-day Tuscan celebration honoring his thirty years in the music business as special guests.
Crowe shared the now-infamous photo to social media, alongside the caption: “Teatro del Silenzio backstage shenanigans with Teddy & Johnny. Lubrication by Guinness. Perfect.”

Why has Sheeran’s seemingly harmless photo stirred controversy?
Depp prevailed in a slander lawsuit against Aquaman actor and ex-wife Amber Heard in June 2022.
In a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, the actress said she had become a “public figure representing domestic abuse” and faced lawsuits for damages.
Although the actor wasn’t specifically addressed, according to Depp’s lawyers, it was implied that she had previously made accusations against him.
Even though the Edward Scissorhands actress prevailed in the case, Heard, who seems to have faded from the public eye, continues to receive support from a large number of people.
