The honorary mayor of Niagara Falls in 2023, Pal, the German Shepherd, has a huge following on social media. His dad, Mike Lalicich, started sharing TikToks in 2020, which went viral three days after posting a video with the fun-loving dog. But what caught everyone’s attention recently was a post about a missing cat name Shadow.
Mike believes it was a stroke of luck, or perhaps even ‘divine intervention,’ that brought the three-legged cat to his doorstep. And the story might give you goosebumps, like it did for us!
A Missing Cat in the Neighborhood
One summer evening, neighbors living four blocks away on another street came up to his home to ask if he might help them search for their missing cat. Shadow was missing for four days, and Mike privately feared the worst, aware of coyotes in the area. But the neighbors rallied nonetheless in a huge way to find the kitty.

Incredibly, almost 100 people volunteered to help the family find the missing kitty! What a lovely community this must be. And Mike readily agreed to help despite having witnessed tragic outcomes for lost cats over 20 years.
But nobody could have expected what happened hours later.
“Watch what happens next, you guys!” Mike said in the TikTok.
A Shadow Appears Outside the Home
Hours later, at 10:30 pm, Mike and Pal were settled in on the couch watching television. While surfing channels, he heard an unusual whining sound outside. Wondering what it could be, Mike turned on the home’s security cameras. There, moving near the door, was a black and white cat he’d never seen before. The kitty’s eyes were glowing like little flashlights in the darkness.
Strangely, the cat started staring intently at his door. At seeing this, Mike was shocked. Then, the cat started meowing, so he went to the door.
Was this the missing cat? He looked to see if this cat had three legs, but that’s when an excited Pal came to investigate, scaring away the cat.
“All of a sudden, Pal freaks out and the cat takes off! So I’m thinking now that the cat is gone.”
Shadow Refused to Leave the Door!
Despite the large dog’s presence, it was only a minute later that the determined cat returned to the door, staring intently. This time, Mike saw that the security cam showed this was indeed a three-legged kitty!
“And this time, you can see he’s the three-legged cat! So I’m just like, I got goosebumps at this point! This cat just keeps staring at my door.”
A Miraculous Reunion with His Humans
After telling Pal to stay in the room, Mike went outside again. Talking soothingly to the kitty, Shadow decided to trust him.
Amazingly, Mike was able to slowly move over and pick up the kitty! He was so excited and relieved. Right away, he took the kitty to the home where the family lived.
Sure enough, this was their missing Shadow! And the family was overjoyed to have him home again.
The incredible reunion raises many questions. How did the kitty know to come to the door? Did he smell the scent of his family, who had been nearby two hours earlier? It seems likely, but what was even more ameowzing was that Shadow refused to leave despite the large dog and seemed to instinctively find the one person who could help him.
Besides that, the cat was exactly where the kids had gone, blocks from home on another street.
