John Wick TV Series, The Continental, Drops Its First Trailer

A preview of The Continental, a television series based on John Wick, has been released in advance of its debut later in the year.

In the upcoming prequel miniseries, we are transported to 1970s New York where we learn the beginnings of The Continental hotel’s origin story. This establishment serves as a sanctuary for assassins in the John Wick movies, and also reveals the path that led Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) to become its proprietor.

A synopsis from Peacock says: “The three-part event series will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.”

“Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.”

After receiving the green light in 2018, the new series is set to arrive on Peacock in September of this year.

The show features Colin Woodell as the young version of Winston Scott, a character played by Ian McShane in the Keanu Reeves movies. In addition, it will include a cast of well-known actors such as Mel Gibson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Nhung Kate, Ben Robson, Peter Greene, Ayomide Adegun, Jeremy Bobb, Katie McGrath, Ray McKinnon, Adam Shapiro, Mark Musashi, and Marina Mazepa.

The release of the teaser trailer has generated excitement among fans for this latest addition to the immensely popular franchise. In fact, one viewer expressed their enthusiasm in a comment on YouTube: “Oh, so looking forward to this. Looks like they nailed down the style and tone of what made John Wick popular.”

Someone else said: “Alright, this looks insane.”

A third added: “Let’s gooooooooooo!!!”

Although some fans were hoping to catch a glimpse of Mel Gibson in action as Cormac, this first trailer did not deliver on that front. It appears that we will have to exercise patience and wait for another opportunity to see his character in action.

Given that the project has been in development for several years, it’s only natural that we are all eagerly anticipating its release.

Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch confirmed in 2019 that the show would be a prequel set much earlier in the history of the series.

During an interview with Slash Film at the Television Critics Association, Hirsch stated: “It’ll be a fresh look at the continental as the hotel and how that came into the being of John Wick. It’s way back in terms of the movies.”

Hirsch also mentioned that the series would be launched after the release of John Wick: Chapter 4, which was originally scheduled for May 2021.

Fortunately, the wait for The Continental to premiere on screens won’t be too long, as it is set to be released in just a few months in September 2023.
