Lost Dog Walks Into The Local Police Station To Report Himself Missing

Imagine it – it’s early in the morning and your dog goes missing.  In a panic, you’re looking everywhere.  In the meantime, unbeknownst to you, your dog has turned himself in to the nearest police station and is happily entertaining the officers there.

A similar event recently happened at the Odessa Police Department in Texas.  One morning last week, a dog strolled in, hopped onto the counter, and greeted the officers with a big canine “howdy.”

The dog was happy to be there and clearly enjoying himself.  He didn’t seem concerned that he was lost or that he might have a family looking for him.  In fact, he had a great time and the officers gave him lots of attention and threw a tennis ball for him.

“We were all excited to have him in the building,” Martin told The Dodo. “We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

The department wanted to return the lost dog safe and sound to his owner so Sergeant Rusty Martin ‘questioned’ the lost pup.  He didn’t get far as the dog was unable or unwilling to give out any information to incriminate himself.

The sergeant then launched an ‘investigation’ into the identity of the adorable pup.  He discovered the dog was wearing a collar but that turned out to be a dead end because the tag was missing.

The next step in the investigation was to call animal control and ask them to come scan the pup for a microchip.  However, before animal control arrived, the case of the lost dog hit a major snag.

Apparently, the lost dog decided he’s been missing long enough and left the station as stealthily as he arrived by walking himself right out the back door.

The officers looked everywhere for the dog but could not locate him.  They then took to Facebook and posted pictures of him there.  The dog’s owner reached out and said the dog, named Chico, had made it home by himself.  The police department’s post read:

“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”

We’re so happy Chico made it home safe.  This is a good reminder to make sure all our dogs are wearing their collar with up-to-date tags.

The case of the lost dog is closed.  Please share with your family and friends.
