We all know that cats come with their own unique personalities, and when people are looking to adopt, they usually seek out the best-fit kitty.
But, what if you stumbled upon an adoption ad for “the world’s worst cat”? What would you do?
Here’s the story of Perdita, a cat who was labeled as “the world’s worst cat” by her shelter. Her tale began when she was taken in by an animal shelter in North Carolina after her owner passed away.
Perdita was four years old at the time, healthy and beautiful. But, little did the shelter staff know she’d give them a lot of trouble.
Soon after arriving at Mitchell County Animal Rescue in North Carolina, Perdita showed to have a fiery temperament. She didn’t like to be bothered a lot, and she wasn’t afraid of showing that.
Whenever she felt annoyed, her claws made her feelings clear. But don’t get the wrong idea, Perdita wasn’t against affection, she just preferred things on her terms.
So, she needed a person who knew how to handle such cats, because most people avoid adopting mean cats. Still, the staff had to give it a shot and try to find Perdita a forever home.
The shelter decided to be upfront about Perdita’s temperament and posted a description that said:
“Meet Perdita, not for the faint of heart. LIKES: staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again; the song Cat Scratch Fever, the movie Pet Cemetery (Church is her hero), jump scares (her specialty), lurking in dark corners, being queen of her domicile, fooling shelter staff into thinking she’s sick (vet agrees… she’s just a jerk). DISLIKES: the color pink, kittens (yuk they are so chipper), dogs, children, the Dixie Chicks, Disney movies, Christmas, and last but NOT least… HUGS. She’s single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space. FREE ADOPTION.”
And they did something even more amazing – whoever adopted Perdita wouldn’t have to pay the adoption fee.
Surprisingly, this honest and somewhat funny description turned out to be a success. People showed compassion for Perdita, and some were even interested in adopting her.
After all, every cat deserves a loving home and someone to love, even if they have a strong personality like Perdita.
Following the post, the shelter received over 100 applications for Perdita. They were surprised how people were passionate about making sure that Perdita wouldn’t end up homeless because of her cattitude.
Perdita’s story gained so much attention that even Access Hollywood decided to feature her. But on the brighter side, it’s nice to see how her story touched many people across the world.
Despite her fiery personality, there was someone out there meant to be Perdita’s owner, even if it didn’t always seem that way. She deserved a wonderful life with someone to love and care for her.
Thanks to Mitchell County Animal Rescue and the professional staff, Perdita’s story has a happy ending.
The shelter shared that Perdita found her forever home and that her new name is Noel. They wrote in a post:
“Today is a bittersweet day. Perdita has brought so much joy to the staff here at MCAR. We have loved getting to know her and watching her come out of her slappy shell. Today she went to her forever home with Joe and Betty from Monroe County, TN. They adore her and she tolerates them. She wouldn’t let us take adoption photos in our photo booth, she just growled and ran out of the room. She was in a hurry to get home, where she will have her own private bedroom to stay until she is ready to transition to the rest of the home. Then she will have access to the many catwalks, indoor trees, enclosed cattery, and cat pond. Seriously, I want to live there. Joe and Betty have decided to change her name to Noel, just in case the name Perdita is the cause of her anger…”
I’m happy with how things turned out for Perdita. If you want to keep up with her journey, follow her on Instagram and watch her go from the “world’s worst cat” to the “world’s best cat!”
