These 9 Gadgets Help Keep Me Stress-Free When I Travel

Traveling is exciting, but it often brings its fair share of challenges and inconveniences. To enjoy a more comfortable and stress-free travel experience, here are my essential gadgets, which you can easily fit into your carry-on.

9Power Bank

One of the most critical items in my travel kit is a dependable power bank. A dead phone or tablet while navigating an unfamiliar city is the last thing you need.

A power bank with at least 10,000mAh capacity is ideal. It can charge a standard smartphone two to three times before needing recharging. Some models come with fast charging and multiple ports, so I can power up my phone, earbuds, and other electronics.

If you have a weight limit on your trip, a lightweight power bank like Nitecore’s NB10000 is a popular choice. You will also want to skip buying power banks with wireless charging features. Not only are they slow at charging your device, but the wireless aspect also wastes more charge than your typical wired connection. Of course, there is nothing wrong with having one. Just don’t use the wireless charging feature when you travel.

8Noise-Canceling Earbuds or Headphones

Traveling often means dealing with noisy airports, crowded planes, or bustling streets. A good pair of noise-canceling earbuds or headphones uses ANC (Active Noise Cancelation) technology to create a bubble of calm amidst the noisy environment.

I use them not only to enjoy music or podcasts but also to reduce stress. The noise cancelation helps me focus during work or sleep better on a flight. Whether you’re a frequent flyer or just need some quiet time, these are worth every penny.

I personally prefer using earbuds as they are small, lightweight, and versatile. However, there are instances where a noise-canceling headphone is the better option. For instance, you might find it more comfortable, like a bigger sound stage, or want the peace of mind that you won’t lose it if you decide to sleep. They’re also much more noticeable—a zero-effort way to signal that you’re not in the mood for conversation, which can be invaluable when you’re feeling drained at the moment.

7Luggage Tracker (e.g., Apple AirTag)

Few things are as stressful as losing your luggage. Thankfully, technology has made it easier to locate misplaced bags. Placing a tracker in your luggage or backpack will save you during layovers when the risk of misplaced luggage increases. Aside from security, a luggage tracker will also give you peace of mind when checking in your luggage, making your travel less stressful.

6USB Flash Drive or External SSD

Digital files often take up more space than we expect, especially when traveling for work or capturing memories through photos. I carry a USB flash drive or an external SSD to store all the photos and videos I’ve taken, plus a small library of downloaded content online, just in case the accommodation has a slow internet connection.

I often prefer taking an external SSD over a USB flash drive for its faster transfer speeds and larger storage capacity. However, a USB flash drive may also be useful when you don’t need a backup and only want to store documentation and photos.

5Digital Weighing Scale

Airlines have strict baggage weight limits; exceeding them can mean hefty fees. A portable digital weighing scale can help you avoid surprises at the airport.

Even the cheaper scales are accurate enough to provide useful readings. Before heading out, you can weigh your luggage to ensure it weighs the airline’s limit and prevent any hassle. Also, a small scale will be a lifesaver when you pack extra souvenirs when returning home.

4GaN Charger With 2m USB-C Cable

Charging multiple devices efficiently is key during travel. A GaN (Gallium Nitride) charger has been a game-changer for me. These chargers are compact yet powerful, offering fast charging for phones, tablets, and even laptops.

Pair it with a 2-meter USB-C cable for added flexibility, especially in hotel rooms where outlets are often inconveniently placed. With this setup, I can charge multiple devices overnight and start the day stress-free. This Anker Nano GaN charger is handy and lightweight, while the larger Anker 737 GaN Charger has multiple charging ports.

3Travel Adapters

International travel requires dealing with various plug types. A travel adapter ensures that you can charge your devices no matter where you are. Some of the best models also include USB ports, allowing you to power multiple gadgets at once.

I personally prefer taking a simple travel adapter as it is small and lightweight, and I only need it to plug in my GaN charger. Of course, if you’re taking lots of tech with you during your travels, it may be better if you get a more robust travel adapter with USB ports and an extension cord.

2Handheld Electric Fan

Whether you’re exploring a tropical destination or standing in a long line, a handheld electric fan can keep you comfortable. It is especially helpful during summer trips or in stuffy environments like crowded trains.

These fans are lightweight, rechargeable, and often come at adjustable speeds. It’s a simple gadget, but it makes a world of difference when you’re trying to stay cool.

1Electric Razor

Maintaining a grooming routine while traveling can be challenging, but an electric razor simplifies things. A compact, travel-friendly model fits easily in my bag and eliminates the need for shaving cream or water.

Look for a rechargeable razor with a long battery life. It’s convenient, saves time, and helps you stay presentable throughout your trip. For me, this is a practical addition to any packing list.

Traveling doesn’t have to be stressful. With these gadgets in my bag, I feel more prepared for whatever the journey throws my way. Whether staying charged, organized, or comfortable, these tools make all the difference. Give them a try, and you’ll wonder how you ever traveled without them!
